'Map Skills' Progression

At the Priory School we want our children to be passionate about Geography.

We want them to be inquisitive about the world around them, to develop their geographical skills as they progress through the school and make connections to real life experiences to deepen their Geographical knowledge

The geography curriculum has been carefully crafted so that our children develop their geographical knowledge and skills. Early in their learning journey, when the children first start to look at the world around them e.g. as they are running through South Park Gardens or wandering along Wandle River they are thinking deeply and asking questions about the environment around them and developing their geographical knowledge and deepening their global understanding.  As our children move from Early Years into Key Stage One and Two, their developing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. We want them to have respect for the world around them so that in their daily lives they can make a conscious effort to protect it. Every week in our collective worship we reflect on our journey in humanities by thinking critically about the Priory Perspective of the week. (link).

Our schools’ motto “Achievement for all, guided by God” underpins our teaching and our school values (forgiveness, thankfulness, service, peace, truthfulness, respect, perseverance, generosity, courage, friendship and compassion) are at the forefront of all we do.
